Birch has been studying and loving the idea of wild dogs since we first got to Africa. Last weekend we heard there was a pack about a 5 hours drive away. We frantically tried to find a camp open- Thanks to Alex Walker camp we did. He let us stay for a great rate. We saw the dogs waking up, chasing zebra, and hunting. Then to top if off we went on a two hour hike to get to our sundowner rock and got to walk with giraffes and zebras. Cole called it “girrafic park”. Isn’t he clever! Over all great weekend and Birch finally got to see the wild dogs. We were all a little sad leaving because we were all thinking about going home and that we would miss Africa. We are off to Oman for holiday this week. More to come….
We had the international festival at ISM. This year our American numbers were stellar, so we had chili dogs ( which half of our “American “ volunteers didn’t know how to make…. and they call themselves American. We had Native American headdresses. Big success. Lots of cool dancing from around the world. Birch’s teacher Miss Kelly even found a great flag dress at the second hand market.
Kids went bird banding with friends in the last couple of months. This is so we can see where the birds go, how they survive etc.. It is a global data base on the computer. Birch way into this!!
Birch turned 9. We went to a camp with friends. Masaii warriors just finished with circumcision ceremony still dressed up for the celebration. Cole sat down first at camp when he heard the cake song and so they took the cake to him and sang until Birch finally came in. Cole was like cool singing yeah bring it on…..We got drenched in rain on the way home from sundowners and Birch said” this is the best birthday God could have given anyone” or something like that.
Camp trip for school field trip. Hiking and caves and learning about Biomes.
Me and the boys went to a fancy place one of the weekends David was away. Cole liked the chocolate and the chocolate map he called it. They also gave us hot water bottles for our feet in bed and I think Cole loved that best of all.
Birch gave a power point presentation on Biomes and Cole held a used book sale for charity at the school with his class. He was a great cashier. He loves giving change in Monopoly so we were sure he would be a fine cashier. ( sneaky in monopoly though-but I think everyone in school got the right change)
Rain kind of started coming- Birch asks me why the dust rain storms freak me out and all I can remember is “ get under the stairs there is a tornado coming!!!!”
Typical shirt at the end of every day of school- gross – so much adventure but so much dirt- you should see their feet!!!!
Starting to get sad and happy about coming home in June. Booked flight for the 21st of June.!!!! peace all
